A Thousand Miles Up the Nile Redesign
book cover
original cover
redesigned cover
I was commissioned by the Egypt Exploration Society to redesign the cover for Amelia B. Edward’s seminal book on Egyptology, originally published in 1877. The redesign was intended to reframe the context in which the book was created and the field it helped to establish, by using Amelia’s sketches of Abu Simbel as a reference and keeping the figure herself as the central framing of the cover, with Egyptians outside the frame observing her. The cover maintained the same color theme, overall design and text of the original for familiarity.

Mufida AbdulRahman Google Doodle
I designed the January 20th, 2020 Google Doodle for Mufidah AbdulRahman, who was among the first women to graduate from Cairo University’s Faculty of Law and became the premier female attorney in Egypt. Her determined efforts in and out of the courtroom helped forge the path to political equality for Egyptian women. The Doodle aimed to highlight the more personal moments in Abdul Rahman’s life, from being the young lawyer who received payment in eggs and fruits to the mother who enjoyed a rich family life with her nine children and supportive husband, and was designed to be both animated and static.
